Oddly enough, this fantastic piece was given to me as a gift. I'm doing some work on
the side for an upcoming movie, and I end up spending a lot of time at the directors
place. Well, he had this piece hanging on a dummy, but when I went there recently,
it was all rolled up and sitting on a shelf. I was shocked! I said "Dude! I can't
believe you're just sticking this thing up on a shelf!". He looked at the armor
in disgust and said "just take it. it's yours".
I'm never one to pass up a free lunch, so I ran it out to my car as fast as my feet
could carry me.
This is a very nice piece, and it's in pretty good shape. From what I understand, this
was a rejected piece, as it has a few bubbles in the chest. It was found in a dumpster.
Interestingly enough, there are no seams on the oustide of the armor. From what I was told,
these foam pieces were made using a one piece mold that had a bunch of shims that fit
into the mold. Once the foam was cooked, the shims were pulled out, and the foam was
peeled off the outer casing. Pretty cool technique.
I have to say that I think this is the centerpiece of my collection. It is not screen used,
but it is from the shop, and it's very nice. Considering how old it is, it's in pretty great
shape.
