I've been searching around for years for a good replacement for my '89 Batman gloves for
years, and it is my belief that I have found them with these.
For my original costume that I made back in 1990, I used the same ThunderWear motorcycle
gloves that were used as a base for the screen used gloves. At the time, the company was
still in business, and it was not too difficult to find them in any size and color. I grabbed
a pair and took them to a local tailor to have them modified. They turned out really nice,
but this all went to hell when Batman Forever came out, and they started using custom gloves.
The Panther suit is something I've always wanted to get, but the pieces have not been widely
available at reasonable prices. So I was very happy to discover that a dude on the east coast
was producing these gloves. Though they are not dead on accurate to the screen used Panther
gloves, they are by far the nicest gloves I have ever seen. The craftsmanship of them alone
makes me forgive the slight inaccuracies.
I've been told that the fins are a bit oversized, but I think they look cool. A bit more
dramatic than the ones in the film, which is fine with me. The hand part of the glove is
flawless. They absolutely nailed that part. The guantlets are perhaps a bit too long, and
shape of the ribbing does not have the curvature that is seen in the screen used ones.
Also of note, an interesting design choice was to put a stretch band on the underside of
the gauntlet. I assume that this was to make the gloves more of a "one size fits all" kind of
deal. I'm sure the gloves for the movie were custom made to fit Kilmer and the stund doubles,
so it comes as no surprise to see that some corners had to be cut to both make the gloves
mass consumable, and to keep costs reasonable.
I'm very happy with these gloves, and I love wearing them. They're very comfortable, and
fit my hands quite well. At a recent prop party, I wore them almost the entire evening.
No wonder people think I'm strange.
