Another gem from the Blade Runner collection, this little glass has a bit of a story behind it. Well, the glass itself doesn't, but the story about the search for the glass is a bit interesting.

A few folks on the internet have been looking for this glass for some time now. I guess it wasn't that easy to find, considering the fact that it took about 17 years since the release of the film for these to turn up in any quantities. I think it all started when some dude said he found something LIKE the shotglass at a local five and dime store. Sure enough, it was pretty close in shape, but was lacking the trademark blue band around the middle. So, this got a lot of us thinking that maybe it was not a found item, but someone added the blue stripe for the movie.

Like all other props that are cheap, lots of people flocked to this, and many a thrift store around the country were swamped with penny pinching Blade Runner fans searching for a piece of the action. Some people even went so far as to attempt to simulate the blood stained booze that fills the glass in the scene. Here's where the story gets good. I beleive it was the now imprisoned Guy Raz that lead the charge to get the blood stained booze glass project rolling. Rich Ray did a lot of experimentation with various resins to try to get it right, but the glass kept breaking. For some reason, though I can't remember why, Raz attached himself to the project, and turned it into a religion. (sound familiar?) Anyhow, turns out that Raz knew some guy on the internet who was a shot glass officionado. He contacted him about the glass, and oddly enough, the dude knew exactly what he was looking for, and pointed him in the direction of a set.

The glasses typically come in a set of six, along with some crazy booze decanter that has some weird pump at the top. It's wild. You can find them on e-bay all the time, though I suspect their prices have gone up a little bit. Even worse, only two of the six glasses that come with the set have the blue band. The others are red and yellow.

New information suggests that the recently released from prison Raz may not have been the first person to sniff out this glass. Then again, who really cares. I mean, hey, if your reputation hinges on discovering a shot glass, then you've got bigger things to worry about.
