Now here’s something you just don’t see every day. These are resin castings of pieces used in the building of the Tyrell miniatures as seen in Blade Runner.
I am unsure if these were taken directly out of studio molds, or if the studio pieces were cast after production to produce these. However, on many of the pieces, the detail is quite crisp, indicating that they were either unused pieces, or cast from unused pieces.
Many of the pieces have air bubble blow-outs, indicating that they may have been cast in a hurry. For a miniature the size of the Tyrell building, attention to detail as minute as some air bubbles may have been nonexistent. I can certainly understand how some of the washed out detail could have slipped through the cracks.
Still, in my opinion , these are fascinating pieces, and they demonstrate just how much time, attention, and energy was put into the most minute details of this film. Each little piece is a bona-fide work of art.
I currently am entertaining the fantasy of one day putting together a little section of Tyrell building, perhaps as a backdrop to a miniature or some other display piece. At this point, I’ve still got a few other projects to focus on.
