As seen in a late second season episode of Farscape
This took me about 3 hours to complete.

Pictured here is my first attempt at the Farscape Peacekeeper Grenade. Turns out, it is quite inaccurate, but only in the finish.
The original prop was made from a perfume bottle. The prop makers changed very little about the bottle. It appears as if they just painted it, and when necessary, but some greeblies on it to give it functionality. There appears to be at least two different styles of grenades used in the episode. One type, the "stunt" grenade, has no LED, no button, and no suction cup. The "Hero" possesses all of these traits. Pictured here is the stunt version. I acquired a mold of the perfume bottle, but the pulls were a little rough. They required a good deal of clean up on the seam. I primered the resin pull, and added the texture to the grip by using super glue gel and some kick. The texture turned out to be too much, and it was later suggested that the texture achieved by the prop makers was a result of using something like Rustoleum Hammered Metal paint. I later acquired a can of that paint, and I now suppor that theory. After painting the body black, I masked off the grip and painted it with plasti-kote 1004. This was intended to be a rough attempt, and my plan is to make a "hero" version later.
Here are a couple of screen captures of the stunte grenade
from the show if you're interested in seeing the real grenades in action. |
