Farscape PeaceKeeper Pulse Pistol

This is the hand gun used in many episodes from the first season of the Sci-Fi channel's flagship show, Farscape. If anyone has any information that can solidly establish which season this model is from, please e-mail me.

This is a licensed item that I purchased from the Creation Entertainment website. Though I am usually against giving any of my money to the good folks at Creation, this was one item I could not pass up.

The most interesting aspect of this prop is the paint job. On the screen, it appears as if it's jet black. However, this prop is obviously not black! Since this is a licensed item, which comes with a certificate of authenticity stating that it is made to the exact same specifications as the ones used on the show, I must assume that the paint job is accurate to the filming model. This makes an odd bit of sense, considering how things on film are often not as they look in real life.

If the prop was painted jet black, it would appear very flat on screen, and a lot of the details would probably get washed out. it would also reflect light strangely, which could end up with a "hot spot" that the camera would not like.

As it stands, it looks to me as if they painted the base with a dark grey, and then misted it with some kind of silver paint. To mist a prop, you spray a cloud of paint into a box, or the air in front of you, then wave the item through it, picking up little droplets of paint as you go. They may also have airbrushed it on. Who knows.

I saw a replica recently that looked like it was painted with an off the shelf fleck paint. I don't think this is how they painted this one, but the effect is similar.

All in all, I am VERY pleased with this prop. Money well spent. it's in excellent condition, and was very nicely finished. This is undoubtedly one of the best looking props I have purchased this year. Very professionally finished, though packed exceedingly poorly. I'm not sure if I buy the whole "Built to exacting standards" line on the COA, but who knows. Lots of companies claim that their stuff is "exact" when in fact, it turns out to be anything but.

My pistol is #13 of 500.
