This is a replica of a miniature made for the production of "The Fifth Element".
It was built by me, and it took forever. My records indicate that I started documenting the reconstruction of this car on April 7 of 2004. Yikes. And that was probably a short time after I purchased it, so throw in a couple extra months. I don't know why it took so long. It was not really particularly challenging or anything, I guess it was just one of those things that sat on the shelf for a long time. Go figure. I documented the build up process pretty well here, if you're interested in reading up all about it. Long story short, I purchased a couple of beaten up kits from Monsters In Motion a long time ago, and set about restoring them. The first one is now finished, and I'm really really quite pleased with the results. There are some tiny boogers here and there with the paint job, but I don't care... as it's done. From start to finish, this must have taken more than a year. Granted, I wasn't working on it non stop. It's just been sitting in a box, in various states of disrepair. I won't go in to the history of this piece here, as it's all pretty well documented in the "making of" page, but let's just say that this story has a really happy ending for me. The only real change I made to the original was the addition of the two engines at the back of the car. Those were not included in the original. Other than that, I tried my best to replicate the original as closely as possible, including some upgrades in paint and overall clenliness. |
