Session Sixteen

The engines are completely done!

The bottom plate had a new strip of styrene added to it. It can be seen underneath the grey kitbash part. In the original piece, it looks like this may have been some clay that was sculpted on. It's a little rough in the master, but I cleaned it up for my version.

The upper plate had a few things done to it. I plugged up the holes in the rod, and clayed up a gap that was created between the rod and some of the styrene blocks next to it. This would have caused a problem in molding, so I just plugged it up. I was going to use putty, but it would have proven too problematic to sand it down.

My biggest update is the inclusion of a couple of model kit pieces to the upper plate. You can see them in the pictures, as they are the shiny grey pieces. I think it was an alternator, or maybe a carbuerator. Who knows. I had to do a little work to get it to lie flat, but it turned out great. A little putty to fill in some undercuts and it's all done. Whew!

At this time, the only remaining item to rebuild are the turbines for the yellow car. Everything else is done.

I'm including a picture of the Tamiya kit purely for documentation purposes. This is the kit I purchased to get some greeblies from, for my kit bashing efforst. I chose a kit that I thought would have a lot of weird, futuristic looking pieces. This particular kit had a couple winners, but for the most part, wasn't too good. I'm out thirty bucks, but I did find some really great little pieces for the engines.
This is a status photo on the grey car. This actually turned out to be a much bigger pain than it had to be, and I blame myself entirely. I used a flexible glue when I cemented on the plates of styrene to the undercarriage of the car. This caused BIG problems when it came to hiding the seams, and with glue squirting out from underneath. BIG pain in the butt. I spent a lot of time this weekend filling in little pits and dents in the engine cavern, and reshaping the back end. I'm probably only going to commit one more session to the grey car body, as it is driving me insane. Besides that, it's looking pretty good at this time.
