The biggest challenge on the yellow car was the uneven keel. The bottom of this car was lopsided and uneven. After
I put on the layers of styrene and had sculpted/sanded a general shape, I decided to level out the bottom. I did this
by turning on my table top belt sander and placing the car on top of it, bottom down. I applied pressure to the side of
the car that was too thick, and slowly sanded it down. It actually turned out VERY nicely. I eyeballed the progress
as I went, and ended up with a car that sits level when laid on the table.
In these two pictures, I sprayed the bottom with primer to see where I had introduced some unevenness. You can see that one side has a wider bevel than the other. This is fixed later. |
