In the film, Alex Marlowe is an agent of "The CORE", and is a demon hunter. There's a scene
where she and her partner, Josh Dalcher, are going to question a suspect. Before they go
into the house, they have to choose their identification for the day. Since "The CORE" operates
above the law, they can't just charge in and say "we're here with the Core!", so they have
to go undercover. The gag is, they have to pick between being FBI agents and LAPD officers.
They sit in their car discussing it and flipping through ID's and finally decide to be LAPD.
So, for this scene, I had to make a wallet that could take either an FBI ID or an LAPD ID, and
the cards themselves.
The wallet was found at Target. It was a ten dollar job, but was not exactly right. I used
a razor blade to remove the entire guts on the non-window panel, and also had to expand the
window so that it would show a little more ID.
For the ID's themselves, I modified an existing x-files ID I made a while back. I resized
it a bit here and there, and moved a few things around. I also changed some of the text from
blue to black. The LAPD ID is a modified "Dragnet" replica I made for a friend a couple of years
ago. Same thing: I resized it, moved some stuff, etc.
There is a metal badge that goes in the wallet, but at the time of these photos, I did not have
it yet in my posession.
When I showed it to the director of photography, his comment was "That's great, it looks like
a real ID photo: she looks like shit".
Interestingly enough, you'll notice that "Dana Scully" from the X-Files is listed as the Chief
of Police on the LAPD ID. It was a digitized signature I had lying around, and I wanted something
other than my handwriting on the card. The signature of Alex Marlowe was written by me prior to
lamination.
