Alex Marlowe's Pocket Scope

As seen in Guardian Of The Realm

I spent about 3 hours on this.

This was probably the most fun piece to make for this film. The director told me that he had really liked the little pocket scope that was used in the film "The Art Of War" with Wesley Snipes, but didn't want something that looked like that. He wanted something small and handheld.

Since that was all the direction I was given, I figured I'd keep it simple. I headed out to my local Target store to find something small and cylindrical. I found a little "spy" kit that had a scope in it which I was originally going to use, but thought that another little piece in the kit would be better. This piece was acually some kind of pen light cap. I took it apart and painted the top using Plasti-Kote 7173, everyone's favorite Star Trek paint code. I then took some letra-set letters that I had purchased for another Star Trek prop project and wrote some random numbers on the side.

The coup-de-grace was the little "camera" I put onto the viewing end. This is a replica of the greeblies found on many of the props seen on the new Star Trek series, "Enterprise". I guess there's a few different homages on this prop.

The director was very pleased with it, but was worried that it may be to small to play well on screen. We shall see.
