I purchased this for about ten bucks. My plan is to make a sort of display that uses both this sandbag and my fertility idol from Raiders. It's a decent replica, as far as sand bags go. But then, I haven't really seen a lot of sand bag replicas. It's made of canvas with a leather strip and metal grommets. Certainly not complicated by any stretch of the imagination, but nice nonetheless.
Here's something that always bugged me about that scene in raiders. I don't know how many people have held a gold bar in their hands, but I'll bet it's hella heavy. I mean, gold is about as heavy as lead, right? So, assuming that the fertility idol was supposed to be solid gold, that thing must have weighed a ton. So the plot of the scene is that Indy uses the sandbag to trick the booby trap into thinking the idol is still on the dais, right? Well, how is it possible that a half filled sand bag could possibly weigh as much as an idol that must have taken the equivalent of a few gold bars to make. Sloppy film makers!
