This is the exact same found item that was used for the ship coms in FireFly. It looks as if very little modification was done to this item for use in the show. It's originally some kind of bullhorn box for firefighters. I really don't know that much about it. A dude online scrounged up a whole mess of them, and I happened to land one. I still need to remove the decals from the sides, but other than that, it's a dead ringer for the screen used pieces.
