This is a nice little piece that came together over the course of about a week. I got some good reference shots from an online source, and set about tracing it out in Adobe Illustrator. A brief search on the internet and some conversations with fellow collectors revealed that the font was a custom one made for the film. Nobody seemed to have it, so I went ahead and created by own copy of the Precrime font. I stared with HandelGothic Bit Torrent and modified the entire alphabet heavily. I then exported that as a font file, and headed back to illustrator.
The kerning was a bit off, so I had to do some re-positioning, but overall I’m very happy with the font.
The other major challenge oft his project was the weird wavy patterns on the front and back. It turns out that this is just a repeating shape with a predictable transform done on it. Once I figured out the transform, the rest came quickly. I did do some hand tweaking to work out some of the kinks, but for the most part, it looks good.
The picture of Tom Cruise is a cleaned up copy of the reference I found online.
The Precrime logo was hand made by me in illustrator. It was actually pretty easy. It’s just geometric shapes resized and rotated.
This project came together very quickly, and I think the results are great. Thanks to everyone who provided information or inspiration.
