This is a replica of the padd seen in the two parter of DS9 named "Past Tense".
This padd is the second padd that I have built under my "one hour" umbrella. The idea was to put together a Padd kit that could be built up by a reasonably talented model builder in under an hour.
The body of the padd is made of laser cut styrene. The graphics were created by me in adobe photoshop
and illustrator based on screen captures of the episode provided to me by a friend. The actual image
of Bell was lifted directly from the screen capture, modified in photoshop, and placed into the illustrator file. The orange text is very accurate to the text seen on screen. When the episode aired, there were two padds depicting the same information. One of the padd was oriented sideways. This particular padd saw much more close-up time on screen. I was able to lift all of the text off that padd, and incorporate it into the vertical padd seen here. Unfortunately, the last two lines of text on the upright padd were not on the horizontal padd, so I had to make those up myself. Similarly, the entire block of purple text was undecipherable.
On the main button, seen on the left hand side of the padd, I placed some silver mirror plotter cut vinyl shapes into the graphic to duplicate what was seen on screen.
It was later revealed to me that there is an LCARS sticker on the back of the padd, so I decided to include that also.
The body of the padd was drawn by me in adobe illustrator based off a photocopy I made of a casting of a screen used padd. this allowed me to get the dimensions down perfectly. The laser cutting was done by an outfit in Wisconsin. There was a lot of trial and error involved in getting these cut, as I needed to specify materials, overcome a few obstacles, all while dealing with folks over e-mail. I'm very pleased with the way the final product came together, and consider this my second successful laser cut padd project.
