This is a build up of the Roddenberry.com Cobra Head Phaser kit, as built by me!
In all honesty, this is one of the nicest trek kits I have ever had the privilege to build. All of the pieces were excellently cast, with only very minor flash and seam lines to clean up. The entire kit required only one very small application of spot putty. For the most part, it was a pretty straightforward build up. I actually built this over the course of a weekend in my spare time. It would have gone a lot faster had I not dropped the nozzle right before gluing it onto the body. It required a repaint. The great thing about the rod.com kits is that they include a big instruction book that reveals some of the more “secret” paint codes. They give you the Tamiya numbers for the green “LED” bar, and the blue underneath the emitter. The only place I deviated from the kit instructions was with the aforementioned blue. Instead of painting it directly onto the emitter, I used a piece of very thin styrene. I cut it to match the inside shape of the emitter, then painted it blue, and adhered it with double sided tape. Seemed a little cleaner than painting into the nozzle, and having the opportunity to screw it up. For the body, I actually used Plasti-Kote 1004. While this is not 100% accurate, I chose to save my last few cans of the correctly formulated 7173 for other projects. I also put foam tape underneath the three buttons, so that they have a little give when pressed. Overall, a very nice kit that built up very easily. I could not recommend rod.com kits more!
