For some reason, I recently got a big interest in acquiring this piece. I've known about it for years now, but never found a good source. I guess they're a bit rare. My interest was piqued recently when I noticed in the pilot episode of Enterprise that the same prop had been repainted and was being used as the Suliban weapon. This piece is built largely off a toy from the Japaneese anime "Dirty Pair". This gun belongs to the character named Kei. The pistol was first built by Prop'r Effects for Next Gen, and was consequently reused on other shows. It's a very nice looking piece, though I don't believe it was very heavily modified for the show. There are a couple of little detail pieces that look a lot like evergreen styrene that were probably added on later, but for the most part, this is an unmodified Kei gun. This particular piece was given straight out of the master molds, so it is first generation. It was painted by a fellow collector using paint codes specified by the folks at Prop'r. It's about as accurate as you could get. The finish is also very nice. It's a very well made piece. So, this ends one of my long time quests for a piece. I'm very happy to have this in my collection, and also very happy of it's provenence and excellent production.
