This is one of the more interesting licensed items that came out around the time of The Phantom
Menace. This Sith Probe Droid is actually a part of a game. The set came with the probe,
a light saber, and a bunch of foam disks. You load the foam disks into the droid, mount
it on top of a three foot high post, and it shoots them at you. The goal is to deflect
the disks with the saber.
The cool thing about it is that the saber has infra-red emitters around the hilt, and
the probe actually tracks on them and aims the disks right at you. It's pretty clever, and
is actually quite difficult.
But as with most games, you lose interest in it pretty quick. Fortunately, it makes for
a dandy prop replica! the probe itself is actually a VERY nice representation of what is seen
on screen. The only differences that are really noticeable is the big old slot in the middle
of it where the disks come flying out.
I have this piece haning up in the corner of my bedroom, surveying all activity that takes
place therein.
Here's the best part: When this game first came out, it was retailing for something rediculous,
like 59 bucks. After a few months of sitting on the shelves, Toys R Us blew them all out the
door for 9.99. I snagged three or four of them.
