Unpacked the boxes today!

Living in San Francisco has its advantages. Having a homeowner as a friend has its advantages. Living in San Francisco and knowing a home owner there means that R2 has a place to be built.

That was the plan as Adam and I carted the four boxes of R2 parts from his shop to his home, where I was going to set up my base of operations. I needed a place to work, and he had a spare room off his garage in his new place. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

These pictures show how the parts all looked as they came out of the boxes.

Here's the dome and the rockler.

We did a quick, rough assembly of the awesome JAG frame to make sure all the parts were there.

A random stack of parts.

And the amazing skins!

I guess if I absolutely HAD to put my finger on what would be the FIRST day of working on R2, I would say it was today.

Between this day and the move to the shop, lots of work was done that went undocumented. I researched and ordered a dome motor controller, for instance. I had numerous conversations with fellow R2 builders about how to do certain things, what materials would be best, etc. Lots of stuff that doesn't really get photographed, or mentioned. But there was work going on, trust me!
