Today was a pretty short day. I got up early enough in the morning, but in between the gym, sitting by the pool, and hanging out with Bill Fischer, there just wasn't much time in the day for much else.
I headed down to the garage early today, with the fully dried blue panels that I painted yesterday. As expected, they just look stunning. I'm really happy with how the blue is turning out. My first trick was to assemble the pocket vents. These are really fantastically engineered. The blue plate just screws in on the back side via 8 little phillips head screws. There's also hardware included to help you attach it to the skin. Too cool.
For reference, the pocket vents were purchased from the dashing Daniel Deutsche, over at www.droidstuff.com.
The side vents needed a little extra work. These are STILL beautiful pieces, though do not include the over-engineered elements that are found in the pocket vents. In short, I had to glue the back panel in place. I didn't want to really risk glue seeping onto the front of the blue plate, so I only used a TINY bit of glue on the back of the vents. Most of the glue went around the edges. I hope that will be enough. If not, I'll figure something else out. What you're seeing in this picture is the vents facing face down, with a battery on top of them to help keep the back plate in it's proper position while the glue cures. I took a quick peek at these later on in the day, and they look great.
Lastly, and probably of the least interest, is a piece of the dome. While sitting on my living room floor last night, gazing at the pieces remaining to be painted, I realized that one was missing. I was in a bit of a panic, as that would really screw things up for me. But seeing as how the dome is turning out to be the biggest nightmare on this project, it would have come as no surprise to me to learn that this piece had gone awol.
Fortunately, a brief search of the garage this morning yielded the missing piece. I just had to primer it and clean it up to get it ready for some Hypo Blue.
That's all for today. Now I'm off to party with Fischer, webmaster of the seldom updated www.swamptooth.com and www.classicstickmen.com
