Total hours spent today: 2

Nothing photograph worthy today, but I did get my daily dose of R2 work.

Today I time tested my hyperdine labs logic display. I wanted to see how long it would last with a regular 9v battery. Turns out, not very long. It only went for about an hour and fifteen minutes before biting the big one. That's a bummer, but not a big one. The thing was designed to be run off a more robust battery, so that's what I'll get. I'll just have to figure out which one to use.

I also did some dome sanding today. I'm getting ready to head into the final phases of my dome building, and I want to get it all cleaned up prior to clear coating. Though I am going to be going for a non-high-polished look, I still want it to be uniform, and relatively ding free.

I'm still at a weird juncture with the dome, as there's still a chunk of work to do on it. I don't want to clear coat it and paint it prior to getting all the guts sorted out, as these things tend to get dinged around during the process.

One other thing to file under "if I could do it all again": I would sand the inner dome. Don't know why I didn't think of this. The inner dome has "spinning" artifacts on it, basically meaning that it's not entirely smooth. Though the inner dome will only show through the cracks in the dome plates, I still wish I had thought it through enough to clean them up. Not a big deal at all, and will probably be totally invisible to the casual viewer. So no big deal.

Oh, and by popular demand, here is a pdf you can download to make your own rear logic display gels. Have fun! Right click on the image below and select "save as..." to save it to your computer. There are two copies of the display in this pdf, one in reverse of the other. That way, you can print them and stack them up with the tacky side facing inward.
