Ah, the summer months are officially upon us, and work towards a completed R2 continues to crawl ahead. Today's tiny session was all about the paint. And I mean that in the kindest way possible.
In dorking around with my air compressor yesterday, I noticed that it didn't have the proper connectors to get my air gun hooked up to the hose. So it was off to Droid Depot to pick up the necessary parts. Five bucks later, and I was home snapping pics of the parts.
To make sure everything was on the up and up, I hooked up the spray gun to the compressor, and filled the reservoir with water. I did some test blasting to learn what the different dials on the gun did, and how they effect the spray. I just sprayed on the concrete floor, but it gave me a good idea of how it was going to work. By this point, I feel that I'm actually ready to paint some parts.
Since I'm going all out on this droid, I purchased the duPont paint that is listed on astromech.net as the "official" color. Not really sure if that's true, but hey, what are you gonna do?? So I have a quart of this paint and a quart of the thinner. That's 2 quarts total, for those of you who aren't strong in math. I suspect that will be more than enough to paint the whole droid. I decided to mix up a small container of it, and I'll use that first to get an idea of how much paint I'm going to need to paint the whole thing. I'm thinking I might be able to sell off the leftover to someone else who is interested in using the perfect color, but doesn't have the 150 bucks to buy a quart of it.
Once mixed, I poured it into small containers that could be sealed up. So now, I'm all set to paint. Too bad I'm going away for the weekend!!!!
