March, 2007

CRIKEY! It's about time I found myself back on the road, livin la vida loca, even if only temporarily. This weekend, I'm doing a guest spot in New York City! WOOHOOO! I've been here a couple of times, but I've never really had the chance to pop out and see the town. Well, as of this trip, that has all changed. I'm here for a couple of days in this rather mild March, and it's going really great. I haven't been mugged yet!

This is only a small sample of the photos I've taken so far, but I figured for this web page, I'd keep it very "movie" themed. Read on, true believer.

Straight out of the Spider-Man movies, it's the Daily Bugle offices! WOOHOOO! I guess this is actually a pretty famous building, but not famous enough for me to remember the actual name of it.

Standing just a few feet away from where I took that picture of the Bugle, here's King Kong's favorite stomping grounds, the Empire State Building! NICE!

Fifteen bucks the poorer, I now find myself on the 87th floor observation deck of said building. Pretty nice views in all directions. Today was a pretty clear day, though a bit windy at the top. Wish I had gotten there sooner to see the brightly lit city. All in all, a pretty good time.

Speaking of Kong, here's the tower he climbs to swat down those pesky bi-planes. Cool stuff! You can barely tell that it's CGI! I did a little interview of myself that is worth a look.

And who can forget Times Square. This was taken on Thursday night, when it was a little colder. Still, the streets were packed with tourists and freaks. I fit somewhere in between.

Though not of great cinematic significance, this was used in the movie "Borat". This was the planter in which he took a dump. Nice.

The Chrysler building. Neato art-deco sky scraper that made a brief appearance in Spider-Man, and is one of the more recognizable buildings in the New York skyline.

"Spook Central", this is Sigourney Weavers appartment building from Ghostbusters. Too cool. You can even see the gates on top tha Gozer came through.

This is the restaurant that was also seen in Ghostbusters for the scene where Rick Moranis gets attacked by the demon dog. Strangely enough, it's right across the street from Spook Central. Convenient for filming, I suppose.

The New York Public Library. Seen in Ghostbusters and Spider-Man. In Ghostbusters, it was the library that they went to to catch a ghost. Duh. And in Spider-Man, this is where Uncle Ben dropped off Peter so he could go to that wrestling match. Ah, the things people do for chicks. Er, I mean love.

Grand Central Terminal. Seen in a million movies. And in one YouTube video by Munson.

Here's the building that served as NYU in Spider-Man, this is actually a building at Columbia University.

My favorite find for the day, the Daily Planet from the original Superman movie, by Richard Donner. Looks EXACTLY the same as it did in the movie. It's funny, because the street out front is actually much quieter than portrayed in the movies. Darn movie makers!

Here's the inside lobby of the Daily Planet. Still the same as it was on screen thirty years ago. Security guards were nice enough to let me poke around.

Radio City Music Hall. Nuff said.

Here's the ice rink at Rockafeller Plaza. The only movie I can think of is "Serendipity", a film that I'm embarassed to say I've seen.

The U.N. Building. Superman IV anyone??

And I THINK this was the building used for exteriors for Norman Osbournes house in Spider-Man. There was a cluster of buildings right around this part of town, and they all looked the same to me.
