The main home base in many of my trips to Italy, it's Pieve a Castello. It's always a complete pleasure to visit here, see the family, and view some more of this beautiful country. I had recently watched a bunch of episodes of HBO's "Rome", and was very psyched to be walking around the same countryside that the show was set in. I still haven't made it to Rome or Venice, but I'm some day I'll have the chance.

As mentioned numerous other places on this website, it was just outside Pieve that I took a nasty fall and torqued my ankle. It rendered me useless for almost a week, and mostly useless for almost a month. It was a real disaster. To this day, I have no idea how it happened. I was just walking along, and next thing I knew, I was on the ground. I was walking along a path with some loose gravel, so I have to assume that something shifted underneath my foot and my ankle twisted under. Bad news, and a total catastrophe. That'll teach me to wear improper foot wear. Oh well.

Because I've been to Pieve so many times now, and I've documented it pretty thorougly on my site, my pictures are getting more and more esoteric. I still find them entertaining, but please don't take this page as the last word on pieve documentation.

I took this picture because it reminds me of how utterly lost I was on my first visit to Italy. I didn't really understand how the signs worked, or how to get to Pieve. It was probably one of the most frustrating 8 hours of my life. That's how long it took me to drive from Rome to Pieve. It should be a three hour drive, mind you.

This is NOT a historical recreation. That's actually me, moments after I had snapped my ankle off. I'm in genuine agony right there. Magical moments, I tell ya!

The good news was that there was a freshly cleaned bidet waiting for me back in my room, just in case I needed to "Freshen up". Ah, I'll just never understand those things. Don't take that the wrong way, I understand what they're for. I did see Crocodile Dundee, after all. I just won't use one. Too weird.

The inner courtyard of Pieve. I took this from a window looking out of my room.

Speaking of rooms, here's the one I stayed in this time. I've never been in this one before, so I thought it was worthy of a photo.
