July, 2009

I'm all about recovering from tragedy. That's what this day trip was all about. As regular readers will know, many of photos "went missing" a few years ago, and they have yet to be recovered. One of the places that I documented heavily on a previous visit was downtown Columbus. It's actually a very pretty downtown area, and I had a really great time mapping it out and photographing the heck out of it.

And while all of those photos are lost, that doesn't mean I cannot do my best to re-trace my steps and re-acquire as many photographs as possible. So, on a quasi-sunny Sunday the other week, I drove down to the downtown area and spent a few hours walking around taking photos. It was a really great way to spend an afternoon, and I even got some good exercise out of it.

This was a little piece of corporate art outside the building for the School Board. Thought it was pretty cool looking.

Someone on Facebook recently posted a story about this building, and how it used to be the tallest building in Columbus. Well, not any more, but it's still got moxie. That's for sure.

The Ohio Statehouse! Actually a really neat looking government building. I may have to go back and take the tour, as it looked pretty cool on the inside. Well, what I could see from looking in through the windows, that is.

I stumbled upon the North Market, a really neat little world-village kind of shopping center.

They were having a big outdoor wine tasting there that day, complete with live music.

Here's a shot of the downtown skyline, from just down the river a bit.

I thought this was an interesting building. Kind of looks like a mini Times Square.

I call this the Stargate. It's smack dab in the middle of the arena district. I think it has something to do with the city's past, which included a penitentiary of some note. But I could be totally wrong about that.
