I took a day trip up to Edinburgh on business, and had a super awesome time. It had snowed a lot on Oxford the night before, which led to all kinds of troubles at the airport. There were a few hours when I wasn't sure if I was going to make it or not, but it all worked out in the end. I think I was awake for something like 29 hours, and only got 2 hours of sleep before I had to turn around and make my way back to Oxford. Definitely a time to remember!

Here is the lovely and historic Edinburgh Castle, located smack dab in the middle of the city. This was about a 15 mintue walk away from where I was working, and it made for a great lunch break. Ok, it was an EXTENDED lunch break, but it was still a lot of fun. For those of you who frequent my website, you'll know that I'm a fan of the old-world stuff, so this walk was really quite satisfying.

I took about 300 pictures inside of the castle, but I don't want to bore you with them all. This is a church at the very top of the castle. Old-world stuff indeed.

Intrepid traveller and blogger Matt Munson, standing at the base of the hill on which the castle sits. Notice that I'm sporting the winter jacket I picked up in Ohio a month prior. Good thing too, as it was darn cold. I did learn from this trip that being comfortable in cold weather is all about the clothing. While that may seem pretty obvious to some of you, this was a major discovery for me.

This is one of my favorite pictures I took during this entire trip to the island. This is in Oxford. I was on my way to the train station, after a night of record snowfall in England. Funny thing is that the country was suffering from a salt shortage. I guess they used all the salt they had on hand to salt the streets, and then everyone and their mother (quite literally) went to the local grocery stores and bought up all the table salt. Good stuff.

In closing, here's a really nice picture of the city of Edinburgh. Well, part of it. This was taken from high atop the Edinburgh Castle. I think I was standing next to a cannon when I took this. Nice.
