My day trip to Rome found me wandering the streets in search of mystery, adventure, and excitement. I found all of that in Vatican City, which was a good hike west from the train station where I arrived.
This was my first view of St. Peter's Cathedral. I was a bit disoriented when I first arrived, but a found a tiny hand drawn map on the ground that helped guide me here. A pretty spectacular entrance!
This is one of the rows of arched pillars that surround the main square (so, I guess it's not actually a "square". Maybe I should call it a piazza??) where all the folks gather when the pope is addressing them.
And here's the front of the cathedral itself. Pretty spectacular.
Inside was more amazing than the out. All very ornately and beautifully detailed.
One of my favorite in-doors pictures from the visit. The tiny people wandering around help give an idea of the scale of the entire place. It is huge!!
