This was my first visit to India, and boy, was it a doozy. Armed only with my Malaria meds and a box of ProMax bars, I did little else but hide in my hotel room and work at the office. I did venture out into town once, but it was pretty crazy. I did a lot better in Mumbai, but this being my first time, my activities were for sure on the conservative side.

One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at, the Oberai in Bangalore did not disappoint. Great place.

Here's the lobby of the Oberai. Everyone called me "Mr. Matt". That was cool. Pool was nice too, though I didn't swim in it.

Despite the great hotel, the surrounding neighborhood was not as good. If I stuck my head over the balcony outside my front door, this is what I saw. Nice!

This was taken just outside the gate of the hotel. Yeah, I said gate. It's surrounded by a tall wall and a big metal gate. The sound of horns honking could be heard all through the night. If you ever feel like traffic in America is getting on your nerves, I recommend you take a trip to Bangalore. It will change your perspective.

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, this was the kind of goodie I would find on my bedside table after work. A bit nicer than the two andes thin mints you get at the Holiday Inn, wouldn't you agree?
