Here we are in glorious Tuscany! This was from my first trip out to Pieve, the converted monestary owned by my brother in law and sister. I could go on for a while about the history of the place, but I think I'll defer that to the website for Pieve itself.

Long story short, the place was built over the span of more than a thousand years, starting at like 782 AD, or something like that. Now it's just plain old killer.

The main entrance, taken from inside the courtyard. There's the lunch table set up on the right hand side.

The octagonal building on the right is the baptistry. It's the oldest building in the entire complex, and is apparently of significant historical importance. Frankly, I just think of it as the dining room, but I guess that goes to show what an uncultured schmuck I am!

This is the back side of the church. That big rounded part is behind the altar inside. I don't have any pictures here of the inside, as it was under renovation this year. It has since been completed and is quite breathtaking.

A view of the whole place from a hill next to Pieve.

Some of the arch ways on the main house. That's my sister in the lower right hand corner. Nanny and Fred on the balcony.

This is the view from the front door, looking in to the courtyard.

Here's the front of the church. The main entrance would be just off to the left.

Here's the view if you are standing in front of the church. Nothing rolling hills, grapes, and sheep.

I think this was the view just outside my bedroom.

And here he is, the not-so-freezing hero, looking off to the horizon for whatever adventure awaits.
